Anna L. Shafer
1925 – 2005

Anna L. Shafer, age 80, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2005 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, Coffeyville, Kansas.

She was born February 10, 1925 in Attica, Kansas to Bert Mayfield and Irene (Beagley) Mayfield Blundell.

As a child she attended several country schools. She was a 1944 graduate of Caney High School.

She was employed with Boeing Aircraft, Wichita, Kansas, during WWII. She was also a homemaker.

On February 17, 1946 she married Richard Glenn Shafer in Caney, Kansas. He preceded her in death October 12, 1997. They made their home east of Caney, Kansas for almost 60 years.

She was a member of the Wayside Christian Church, Wayside, Kansas and past member of the First Christian Church of Caney. Other memberships include CWF – Christian Women’s Fellowship of Caney; Willing Workers of Wayside; Jubilee Quilters and Honey Bee’s both of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Sigourneyan Club of Caney.

She was very active in Meals on Wheels and the Historical Society, both of Caney.

She is survived by four children, two sons, Glenn Shafer and wife Nell of Newark, New Jersey; Roy Shafer and wife Ruth, Havana, Kansas; two daughters, Dee Shafer and husband Roger Hanson, North Fork, California; Janet Shafer and husband John Dull of Mesa, Arizona.

Three grandsons, Richard (Rick) Glenn Shafer, Garold Thomas Shafer and wife Lora, Dennis Steven Shafer.

One brother, Dick Mayfield of Caney, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Garold Mayfield, one son, Harry Shafer (infant).

Calling Hours will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., August 22, 2005, at the Penwell-Gabel Graves Chapel, 107 N. State, Caney, Kansas. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Graves Chapel, 107 N. State, Caney, Kansas. Pastor David Brown of the Wayside Christian Church will be presiding. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney, Kansas.
